This is why some people tell me they have trouble learning English.
“colonel” is pronounced “ker-nol”
and words like “tear, dove, subject, object, wound”, etc.
I was trying to explain to someone that if you say the words in a different pitch and tone it results in a different meaning.
For example,
“I shed tears” and “I want to tear this paper”
“I dove under the table” and “I saw a dove”
“We subject her to the law” and “This is the subject”
“I object!” and “This is the object”
“I have a wound” and “I wound up the toy car”Don’t even get me started on “ghoti” (Google it)
